  • DYLAN HUGHES | MANTEO

In January 2018, Dylan’s life changed. He found himself needing oxygen 24 hours a day and unable to work. The cystic fibrosis he was diagnosed with at age 9 had progressed to a critical stage.

The Relief Foundation stepped in and paid Dylan’s rent for the next four months. Those rent payments along with Food Stamps and assistance from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation helped Dylan to bridge the gap and make his way to Duke where he finally received a lung transplant in October 2018.

“I AM INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL THAT THERE IS AN ORGANIZATION LIKE THE RELIEF FOUNDATION ON THE OUTER BANKS. THEY HELPED ME SO MUCH. IT WAS LIFE CHANGING.”

  • KEVIN AND TONYA MOYE | MANNS HARBOR

Kevin Moye endured an 18-day hospital stay, barely surviving a condition known as sepsis — a localized infection that gets into the blood stream.

His wife, Tanya, is pictured here with a photo of Kevin that she took with her to their 30-year high school reunion that he was too ill to attend.

Tanya said, “With the burden of us both being out of work for an extended period of time, we simply were not able to keep up with our bills.”

“WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED BEYOND MEASURE AND WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE OUTER BANKS RELIEF FOUNDATION AND OTHERS.”

  • REAGAN & AUBREE COBB | STUMPY POINT

When Raegan and Aubree Cobb were born at only 23 weeks’ gestation, they were whisked to the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk.

Their mother, Kylee, had already been out of work due to hospitalization for pre-term labor. But the daily drives to Virginia now meant her husband, Chris, would have to reduce his hours as a landscaper.

The twins needed many medical procedures for brain bleeds and lung disease, and the financial burden quickly mounted.

The Relief Foundation provided them with $2,000 to help cover medical bills and living expenses.

What is the IMPACT OBX fundraising campaign?

The Relief Foundation envisions a future where each individual can receive a higher allocation than today and where more people can be helped.

The first part of IMPACT OBX is a campaign to raise $1 million for funding the mission today. You can help us surpass this goal. Donate here. Your donation to IMPACT OBX will be used now to provide relief funding to Outer Bankers dealing with the emotional, physical and financial toll of crises.

The second part of IMPACT OBX is a campagin to raise $1.5 milion in legacy gifts to the Warren Cameron Judge, III Outer Banks Relief Foundation endowment fund at the Outer Banks Community Foundation so that the organization is backed by a healthy endowment to sustain it for generations to come. Donate here.

There is a limit to the impact the Relief Foundation can have if events are its only revenue stream. The foundation is turning to you, members of our community, to take it to the next level. This isn’t just about having fun for a cause (though of course we will still do that!). It goes much deeper — finding joy in the very act of giving. In knowing that your neighbor, your co-worker, your friend will have a sefety net if something bad happens. But this isn’t insurance — it’s assurance. Assurance that your community stands beside you in your darkest hour.

“What a wonderful thing the Outer Banks Relief Foundation is doing. I am dying and I know that, but I am going to die in peace knowing that stragers cared enough to make my last days easier.”    – a woman from Nags Head
